Dear HempUSA.org

I wanted to write you guys and let you know how happy we are with your product. My wife, Kaytlin and I are in our mid 20's not suffering from any diseases, and were living pretty healthy before we heard about Hemp.

... that an easily-corrected vitamin deficiency may be the cause of major depression and mood disorders?

Research conducted in the last several years at the University of York and Hull York Medical School shows a definite link between depression and low levels of folate -- a compound found organically in fruits, leafy vegetables, and other food sources.

The team from York published some of their findings in the July 2007 edition of the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, stating that a review of 11 previous studies involving 15,315 participants showed a strong connection between low folate levels and depression.

Dr. Simon Gilbody (leader of the York team) spoke with a reporter from the University's magazine about his work, saying, "Although the research does not prove that low folate causes depression, we can now be sure that the two are linked ... there is also some trial evidence that suggests folic acid supplements can benefit people with depression."

Dr. Gilbody and his team also published the results of further research on the link between folic acid and depression in the American Journal of Epidemiology. The team was able to prove that individuals with depression commonly have a gene that causes them to improperly process folate. This gene helps explain why folic acid supplements can clear up even the most severe and prolonged forms of depression.
The Importance of B Vitamins
Folic acid is one of the B vitamins, which are well known to be crucial to emotional and mental well-being. Because B vitamins can't be stored in our bodies, you need a diet that supplies sufficient amounts. Unfortunately, even then, B vitamins are destroyed by commonly consumed substances, such as:

  • Alcohol

  • Refined sugars

  • Nicotine

  • Therefore, it's not surprising that B-vitamin deficiencies are so widespread.
    What is Folic Acid?

    Folic acid is the synthetic form of vitamin B9, and it affects a group of chemicals in the brain known as monoamines.

    It's linked to the production of some of the "feel good" chemicals in the brain, and thought to play a role in the production neurotransmitters such as:
    serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine.
    Researchers believe that folate can cross the blood/brain barrier and is therefore key to maintaining healthy levels of key monoamine neurotransmitters.
    When Antidepressants Don't Work

    Folate deficiencies are especially frequent in patients who don't respond to conventional antidepressants. Some studies also indicate that folic acid may be a very helpful add-on to other prescription antidepressants.

    In one study, folic acid was compared with a placebo pill as a combination with a Prozac treatment approach.

    Patients who received folic acid improved more those who received the placebo. This improvement was especially marked in woman. Nearly 95% of female patients who received folic acid responded to the combo treatment, compared to 60% of woman given the placebo.

    Another study conducted with elderly depressed patients found that another type of folate (5-methyltetrahydrofolate or 5-MTHF) was essentially just as effective as a mainstream antidepressant medication.
    Where to Find Folic Acid

    Folic acid is easily available in its natural form in number of foods, including:

    • Spinach
    • Broccoli
    • Lettuce
    • Okra
    • Asparagus
    • Bananas
    • Melons
    • Lemons
    • Beans
    • Peas
    • Nuts
    • Yeast
    • Mushrooms
    • Orange juice
    • Tomato juice

    In addition, many grain products have been enhanced with folic acid, especially breads and cereals.

    And in addition to watching your diet, taking a folic acid supplement is a fantastic way to ensure you are providing your body with an adequate supply.

    Some drugs -- notably various barbiturates, anticonvulsants, and birth control pills -- can interact with folic acid, so if you are taking any of these, make sure to consult your prescriber before adding a folic acid supplement to your daily regime.

    Standard daily doses of folic acid vary, but typically fall between 250 -1,000 mcg (micrograms) per day. The recommended amount, unless a medical professional has advised otherwise, is 400 mcg per day. At this dose, most adults experience no side effects whatsoever.

    Folic acid supplements typically come in tablet form, and can be found in most natural food and drug stores.

    5 health reasons to not quit coffee

    I really like coffee. The morning ritual of brewing a cup, the smell that perks me up before I take a sip and, of course, the flavor all make it my favorite beverage aside from water (water’s delicious!). As a registered dietitian and a nutrition editor for EatingWell Magazine, I know that coffee is fine in moderation. It has lots of antioxidants and is low in calories if you don’t load it up with cream and sugar. Nonetheless, I always feel slightly guilty about drinking it—you know, in a “it’s so good, it must be bad” kind of way.
    Which is why I’m always delighted to hear of new reasons that coffee is good for your health...and there are plenty! Over 18,000 studies on coffee have been published in the past few decades, revealing these benefits, many of which Joyce Hendley wrote about in the March/April issue of EatingWell Magazine:
    1. It protects your heart: Moderate coffee drinkers (1 to 3 cups/day) have lower rates of stroke than noncoffee drinkers, an effect linked to coffee’s antioxidants. Coffee has more antioxidants per serving than blueberries, making it the biggest source of antioxidants in American diets. All those antioxidants may help suppress the damaging effect of inflammation on arteries. Immediately after drinking it, coffee raises your blood pressure and heart rate, but over the long term, it actually may lower blood pressure as coffee’s antioxidants activate nitric oxide, widening blood vessels.
    2. It diverts diabetes: Those antioxidants (chlorogenic acid and quinides, specifically) play another role: boosting your cells’ sensitivity to insulin, which helps regulate blood sugar. In fact, people who drink 4 or more cups of coffee each day may have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, according to some studies. Other studies have shown that caffeine can blunt the insulin-sensitivity boost, so if you do drink several cups a day, try mixing in decaf occasionally.
    3. Your liver loves it: OK, so the research here is limited, but it looks like the more coffee people drink, the lower their incidence of cirrhosis and other liver diseases. One analysis of nine studies found that every 2-cup increase in daily coffee intake reduced liver cancer risk by 43 percent. Again, it’s those antioxidants—chlorogenic and caffeic acids—and caffeine that might prevent liver inflammation and inhibit cancer cells.
    4. It boosts your brain power: Drinking between 1 and 5 cups a day (admittedly a big range) may help reduce risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as Parkinson’s disease, studies suggest. Those antioxidants may ward off brain cell damage and help the neurotransmitters involved in cognitive function to work better.
    5. It helps your headaches: And not just the withdrawal headaches caused by skipping your daily dose of caffeine! Studies show that 200 milligrams of caffeine—about the amount in 16 ounces of brewed coffee—provides relief from headaches, including migraines. Exactly how caffeine relieves headaches isn’t clear. But scientists do know that caffeine boosts the activity of brain cells, causing surrounding blood vessels to constrict. One theory is that this constriction helps to relieve the pressure that causes the pain, says Robert Shapiro, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of neurology and director of the Headache Clinic at the University of Vermont Medical School.
    Now, that’s not to say that coffee doesn’t have any pitfalls—it does. Some people are super-sensitive to caffeine and get jittery or anxious after drinking coffee; habitual coffee drinkers usually develop a tolerance to caffeine that eliminates this problem (but they then need the caffeine to be alert and ward off withdrawal headaches). Coffee can also disturb sleep, especially as people age. Cutting some of the caffeine and drinking it earlier in the day can curb this effect. Lastly, unfiltered coffee (like that made with a French press) can raise LDL cholesterol, so use a filter for heart health.
    But if you like coffee and you can tolerate it well, enjoy it...without the guilt.

    How to Stop a Heart Attack in 30 Seconds

    Can an ordinary cooking condiment used in cooking spicy, hot dishes really stop a heart attack or stroke?  These doctors say it can.

         Cayenne pepper (also called capsicum frutescens) is a red, hot chili pepper used primarily for flavoring dishes, but it has also been used for medical purposes for centuries.  This stimulating herb has been widely used all over the world to treat a variety of health conditions, including heart disease, poor circulation, weak digestion, chronic pain, sore throat, headaches and toothache, among others.

         Cayenne pepper derives its medicinal properties from a resin-like substance known as capsaicin. Capsaicin is an ingredient that has thermogenic properties, that is, it increases body temperature and is the greatest blood circulation stimulant known.  It doesn't cause palpitations, hyperactivity or an increase in blood pressure that most other stimulants cause.  It also provides temporary relief of pain, which is why it is used in pain-reducing topical preparations such as Capsazin-P, Zostrix-HP, Dolorac, R-Gel and others.

         Cayenne has steadily gained the reputation of being a wonder herb over the past few decades. Dr. Richard Schulze, a notable medical herbalist and naturopath, stated, “If you master only one herb in your life, master cayenne pepper. It is more powerful than any other.”

         Perhaps the most important recognition that cayenne has gained in recent years has been its ability to stop a heart attack or stroke.  Dr. Richard Anderson, author of “Cleanse & Purify Thyself,” reported that one of his fellow doctors rushed out into the parking lot to attend to a man who had died of a heart attack while parking his car.  The doctor put cayenne tincture into the mouth of the man, and within a few minutes, the man’s heart started beating again.

         According to Dr. John Christopher, pioneer of herbal medicine, “In 35 years of practice, working with  people and teaching, I have never on house calls lost one heart attack patient and the reason is, whenever I go in--if they are still breathing--I pour down them a cup of cayenne tea (a teaspoon of cayenne in a cup of hot water), and within minutes they are up and around."

         Cayenne has been shown to stop heart attacks in as little as 30 seconds.  Perhaps the most well-known anecdotal evidence of this involved a 90-year-old man in Oregon who had a massive heart attack.  When the medics arrived at his home, he was pronounced dead.  His daughter was able to administer cayenne extract into his mouth, and within a few minutes, he regained consciousness. 

    Thereafter, he was rushed to the hospital, and while he was in a semi-conscious state, his daughter continued giving him the cayenne extract.  By the time they arrived at the hospital, he had fully recovered and insisted that he be taken home so that he could mow his lawn!  When the doctor asked the daughter what she had given him, and she told him it was cayenne, the doctor declared it was the closest thing to a miracle he had ever seen.

         The capsaicin in cayenne pepper is unrivaled in its ability to boost circulation and increase heart action. It has a mechanism of action that has the extraordinary ability to enhance cardiovascular performance while actually lowering blood pressure.  Capsaicin has an energizing effect on the entire cardiovascular system.

         Dr. Anderson believes that cayenne greatly strengthens the heart and could possibly even prevent heart attacks.  He routinely carries capsules of cayenne with him in the car and whenever he goes hiking, mountain climbing or backpacking.  “You never know when you may find someone having a heart attack,” he says.

         Other doctors, however, insist that cayenne capsules are not as effective as cayenne tinctures or cayenne powder in emergency situations, such as in the event of a heart attack or stroke.  If a heart attack or stroke should occur and the person is conscious, it is suggested that 5 to 10 droppers full of cayenne pepper tincture (or 1 teaspoon of cayenne powder in a glass of hot water) be administered into the mouth, and repeated every 15 minutes until the crisis has passed.

    PS: Losing Weight and being at your target weight does reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

This type of exercise is excellent, it keeps the body moving constantly for intervals of 10-20 minutes at a time and the individual is never bored. The intensity level can be beginner or advanced and the impact is still just as impressive.

    2.  Aerobics is the next exercise that constantly burns fat and keeps the metabolism active. Aerobics can be very intense and fun at the same time, an aerobics class that involves constant change ups and a mixture of stretching, jumping, dancing and up and down movement is great for shedding the pounds. The aerobics class should be at least 35-45 minutes of an intense workout.

    3.  Strength Training is another excellent way to lose weight, it sheds the fat and strengthens the muscles, Lifting weights with small increments helps to build muscle and not bulk and this causes the body to get firm and builds muscle not fat. Dumbbell reps of 15 at a time are good along with similar reps of leg lifts.

    4.  Stretching/Pilates; this is an intense way to bring circulation to every area of the body, it increases the flow of oxygen throughout the body and it stretches muscles that are not used every day. This encourages weight loss and it doesn't feel like it does. The stretching techniques are so relaxing and calming that the individual forgets that they are doing something that is great for the body and the circulation. Pilate's classes should be at least 30-45 minutes long.

    5.  Squat/Jump/Turn; this exercise is excellent for fat burning and losing weight. Whenever there is a combination of movement, down, jumping and turning all within a few seconds is good for the burning fat and creating an intense workout. The exercises for this can also incorporate leg thrust and climbing movements, of 10-20 reps of each.

    Any exercise where the body is constantly moving and movements are alternated for at least 10 -20 minutes each will burn body fat and help the individual to lose weight. Beginners can start out with walking and then build to speed walking etc. Those with back problems can do many of these exercises from a chair. It is all about where you are mentally and physically, but the fat can come off and the weight can be lost.

    4 Questions You Must Ask Before Starting A Diet Program

    This Could Make Or Break Your Goals!

    Are you trying to find an effective diet program to help you lose weight, burn fat, and improve your overall health. Here are 4 questions you must ask before you start a program to ensure you are going on a program that will be effective, simple, and where you will also gain PERMANENT results.

    1. Does the diet have a track record of positive testimonials? It's important that with whatever diet you are interested in that you check and see if it has many positive testimonials. The reason why is not as obvious as it seems. The reason you should check to see if it has MANY testimonials is because every ones body is different. If this diet you are interested in is going to be the best type to go on, it's going to be effective for ANYONE. If you see a positive pattern of different people using the program with success, then chances are, you have a winner.

    2. Is it based on proper nutrition? If the diet is not based around getting proper nutrition (eating more frequently, eating all types of nutrients, not starving yourself), then I recommend you avoid doing it. It's important that the program you are interested in is based around giving your body proper nutrition... since this is the cornerstone of any successful weight loss program.

    3. Will I be able to stick with this program regardless of my current lifestyle? If you are in a very physically demanding job for example, how in the world can you go on a diet that either is based around lowering your calorie intake, decreasing your carb intake significantly, or starving yourself and drinking nothing but lemonade all day long?! Besides that, any type of diet that seems as if it is going to be very difficult to stick to is typically a diet that is unnatural and ineffective.

    4. Will this program help me lose weight... and keep it off for good? Fad dieting will not provide you with permanent weight loss... period. Natural dieting (eating ALL types of nutrients, naturally increasing your metabolism, etc.) is what will give you lightning fast results... permanently.

    Don't Do This if You Want to Lose Weight

    Hi Linda,

    It's the time of the season where everyone is trying to start over and get healthy! If you're already healthy, good for you! Forward this to the people who could benefit from this email. If you're one of those people using this time to better yourself by losing weight, fantastic! I would like to help!

    I always try to give you the do's of weight loss, but a lot of people have been asking me, "Kevin, I know the DO's, but what are the DO NOT's?"

  • Do not eat after 6 p.m.
    Do the best you can on this, however, the good news is you can virtually eat like a pig all day long, and if you stop eating after six you will still lose weight!   (I don't agree with him here, all  and any calories over your maintenance amount will make you fat.)

  • Absolutely NO aspartame or any artificial sweeteners
    Aspartame, which goes by the name NutraSweet, will make you fat. All other
    artificial sweeteners including saccharin, Splenda, or anything else, should be avoided.

  • Absolutely NO Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)MSG is an excitotoxin. It makes you fat, causes all kinds of medical problems, and can affect your mood making you depressed. It also can be physically addicting, like Aspartame, and actually make you hungrier.

  • Absolutely NO diet sodas or diet food
    Diet sodas have been called the "
    new crack" because they appear to be so physically addicting. They actually make you fat. The reason they are promoted so heavily is because people become physically addicted to them and they are cheaper to make than regular sodas.

  • NO fast food or chain restaurants
    Any restaurant that is a chain, a franchise that sells fast food, produces their food in such a way that it will absolutely make you fat. You can actually eat french fries and cheeseburgers and lose weight, provided that the ingredients that you use are all organic and contain no chemical additives. It is virtually impossible to eat food in a chain or franchise restaurant where the food has been processed
    to last for years without spoiling. The food has to be produced as cheaply as possible for the companies to make money. They must add chemicals to make the food taste great and get you physically addicted. This food also has been produced to increase your appetite and make you fatter. Remember, these are businesses whose only objective is to make a profit. If the food tastes amazing, becomes physically addicting, increases your appetite, and makes you fat, the restaurant is assured of success. They are like drug dealers getting their customers hooked on their product.

  • NO high fructose corn syrup
    sweetener makes you fat and is physically addictive. Just stop buying food at the supermarket, go to a health food store instead. Do not buy food that is manufactured by large publicly traded companies. Do not buy brand name food. The profit motive is so high you can be assured that it is not good for you. The sweeteners that are used in food produced in a natural way include organic honey, organic molasses, organic fruit juice, organic dates, the herb stevia, evaporated sugar cane juice. Simply read the labels and if you can't pronounce it, don't buy it.

  • NO white sugar or white flour
    White sugar is in fact physically addicting and makes you fat. White flour, as I have mentioned previously, when mixed with water, makes paste. Eating white flour makes you fat; it can also be addicting, and clogs up your digestive system, slowing down your metabolism. Use organic whole-grain flours that have not been processed or stripped of the fiber.

  • Limit dairy products
    If you are going to consume milk, cheese, butter, or any dairy products, 
    eat only organic products that have not been pasteurized or homogenized. The dairy products should be labeled "organic and raw." It may be hard to find raw dairy products in some parts of the country. The next best option is organic, not homogenized, but that has been pasteurized. Your last option is organic that has been both pasteurized and homogenized. Ideally, if you want to lose weight, reduce dairy regardless of what you are getting. Definitely, absolutely, do not consume any dairy products that are not organic because they will have growth hormone in them and slow your weight loss.

  • Reduce/eliminate the "uncontrollable" urge to eat when you are not hungry
    Remember, censorship is alive and well in America. The Federal Trade commission has forbidden me from saying my opinions on how a person can eliminate addictions and uncontrollable urges to eat. And you thought there was free speech in America. If the First Amendment were true, I would be able to state my opinions and conclusions. I cannot.     Part Two of the Brain with Two Minds with Dr. Anthony

    Hi Linda!

    Yesterday we talked about your Conscious and Subconscious Minds
    and now I want to talk to you about the key to why most people

    --The Critical Divide--
    Between your CONSCIOUS and SUBCONSCIOUS mind there is a division
    called the "Critical Factor". The Critical Factor takes what the
    CONSCIOUS mind is thinking and then seeks approval from the
    SUBCONSCIOUS mind to pass the information along. Sometimes it
    allows it to be delivered and sometimes it does not.

    Many say we develop this Critical Factor at about age six. Prenatal
    and neonatal brains operate predominantly in Delta and Theta EEG
    frequencies through the first six years of our lives. This level
    of brain activity is also referred to as the hypnotic state.

    While in this hypnotic state, children do not have to be actively
    coached into specific beliefs. They develop a core belief system
    simply by observing and interacting with parents, siblings, peers,
    teachers, religion and television.

    Up about age six we are learning things very quickly. If you observe
    children you can see how quickly they are able to pick up new information.
    This is because the Critical Factor is not developed.
    As we age it becomes more important to exercise caution to know
    the difference between right and wrong, hence the Critical Factor
    becomes more discerning and developed.

    Now that you understand about the Critical Divide, you see how
    important it is to be able to cross this critical divide to finally
    release yourself from struggle...
